Choose which Simrix Monitor alert emails you receive
Email is the default way alerts reach you. Five kinds can be sent: a failure alert, a recovery alert, a change alert, a daily summary you can turn on, and a weekly digest. This page covers what each one contains, what triggers it, and which settings turn it on or off.
Steps
- Open Account → Notifications to see the toggles, and the address the daily summary and weekly digest go to.
- Turn Failure alerts on to be told when a scheduled check fails. This also controls the matching webhook.
- Turn Recovery alerts on to be told when a monitor passes again. This also controls the matching webhook.
- To send a site's alerts somewhere other than the workspace address, set a notification email on that site when you create or edit it.
- To silence one monitor temporarily, use the bell icon on its row and pick 1 hour, 4 hours, 24 hours or 7 days.
What arrives in each email?
Failure alert. Subject names the monitor, the site and how serious it looks. The body carries what likely happened, the likely impact and what to check first, a link to the check and its screenshot, and a collapsed technical section with the raw failure, the response code, the page checked and what it looked for.
Recovery alert. Subject says the monitor recovered. The body confirms it is passing again and links to the monitor. No screenshot.
Change alert. Subject reads "Change detected" with the monitor and site. The body carries a description of what changed, a before and after preview, and the highlighted difference image.
Daily summary. Off unless you turn it on. One email each morning with a line per monitor, compared with the day before.
Weekly digest. Total checks, success rate, changes detected and active monitors, plus up to five recent changes and up to five recent failures.
What is not controllable yet?
Three things, worth knowing so you are not looking for a setting that does not exist.
Change alerts have no toggle of their own. They are sent whenever a scheduled change monitor finds something, and the only way to quiet one is to snooze that monitor.
The weekly digest sends on Monday mornings on United States Eastern time regardless of where you are, and its counts of changes and failures show at most five, so a busy week reads as five even when there were more. Turn it off with Weekly digest under Account → Notifications.
All settings are per workspace, not per person. Everyone who receives alerts receives the same ones.
How often will a repeating failure email you?
The first failure after a passing check always sends. After that, the same failure repeating sends at most once an hour, so a monitor that has been broken overnight does not fill your inbox.
If the reason for the failure changes, that counts as new and sends immediately rather than waiting out the hour.
14 days, no card required.
Frequently asked questions
Why have I not received any alert emails?
First check the site's notification email, which is where failure and recovery alerts go, and your spam folder. Alerts also only fire on scheduled checks, so running a check by hand will never email you.
Can each person on my team choose their own alerts?
No. Notification settings are per workspace, so everyone receiving alerts gets the same set. Routing per site is possible by setting a different notification email on each site.
Can I turn off change alerts without turning off the monitor?
Not with a setting. Snoozing that monitor for up to seven days is the only control, after which change alerts resume.
Is there SMS or phone alerting?
No. Email, Slack and webhooks are the delivery channels. There is no SMS, no voice call, no push notification and no on-call escalation.
